Separate document content from technical telemetry
A product can avoid collecting document contents while still using ordinary crash or hosting metadata. Good privacy documentation distinguishes the two.
Map the document data path
Before scanning something sensitive, follow the document through the whole workflow: capture, OCR, storage, search, export, backup and analytics. Privacy depends on every stage, not only on the camera screen.
- Ask whether document bytes ever leave the device or browser.
- Ask whether recognized OCR text is sent somewhere different from the image.
- Check whether backups or sync are optional, automatic or absent.
Minimize what you share after the scan
A private scanning workflow can still end with an unnecessary disclosure if the final PDF is sent to the wrong place. Review the document, filename and destination before exporting, especially when the file contains IDs, addresses, financial information or signatures.
- Share only the pages the recipient actually needs.
- Check the destination account or app before confirming export.
- Keep local originals only as long as they remain useful to you.
