How to scan documents on Android

A good Android scanning workflow should be fast, predictable and easy to review.

Capture one page at a time

Good edge detection and perspective correction matter more than adding lots of editing controls.

Review the multipage document

Reorder, rotate or remove pages before exporting the final PDF.

Use local tools when privacy matters

Sensitive documents benefit from a workflow that does not require uploading every page to a remote service.

Prioritize a readable capture over a dramatic filter

The goal of document scanning is legibility. Strong enhancement can make a page look cleaner while also washing out pencil marks, faint stamps or low-contrast text. Compare the enhanced page with the original before saving.

  • Watch thin handwriting and pale signatures after applying filters.
  • Retake a blurred page instead of trying to repair it with contrast alone.
  • Use consistent settings across pages from the same document.

Use a simple naming and review routine

A scan becomes much easier to find later when its file name says what it is. After scanning, review the page order and give the document a short descriptive name rather than relying only on a timestamp.

  • Include the document type and, when useful, a date or issuer.
  • Avoid putting sensitive identifiers into a filename unless you need them there.
  • Delete obvious failed captures so they do not become part of the final PDF.
