Kinumia Scan

How to scan documents on iPhone privately

The best workflow is the one that gets a clean, readable PDF without adding unnecessary upload steps.

Use a document scanner, not a normal photo

A scanner workflow detects page boundaries, corrects perspective and combines multiple pages into one document.

Review before saving

Check crop, rotation, contrast and page order. A ten-second review prevents bad scans from becoming long-lived files.

Keep privacy boundaries clear

If the document is sensitive, prefer processing that stays on your device and export only when you choose.

When OCR helps

OCR makes names, numbers and phrases searchable. For sensitive documents, on-device OCR avoids adding an upload step.

Set up the page before you scan

A clean capture starts before you tap the shutter. Put the page on a flat, contrasting surface, avoid strong shadows and reflections, and keep the camera as parallel to the page as you reasonably can.

  • Use even light instead of a bright point light that creates glare.
  • Keep all four page edges visible whenever possible.
  • For multi-page documents, keep the page orientation consistent.

Check the finished PDF, not only the preview

Before archiving or sending a scan, open the saved result and verify the details that matter. This catches missing pages, unreadable small print, wrong page order and accidental crops before the file leaves your device.

  • Confirm every page is present and upright.
  • Zoom into names, dates, signatures and small numbers.
  • If you used OCR, search for one or two words you can see on the page.
